If taking action toward your current goals—or even setting new ones—feels out of reach lately, you may be experiencing a loss of motivation. And rest assured, you're not alone. 🪷
Even those who are deeply connected to their goals and have a clear vision of what they want can go through periods of low motivation. Considering life’s ups and downs, unexpected obstacles, and the simple fact that we’re human, this is entirely natural. But what can we do when our motivation feels low, or like it’s slipping away completely?
Let’s say you’ve been working toward a goal for a while, but lately, your motivation is fading. In this moment, a powerful question to ask yourself is: Do I want to put this goal aside, or do I want to reignite my motivation and keep going? 🤔
Maybe the goal isn’t realistic. Maybe it doesn’t align with your values. Or maybe, deep down, it’s not something you’re truly willing to keep investing energy in. In that case, your loss of motivation might be a helpful signal nudging you to let it go. Or perhaps the timing just isn’t right, so pausing and returning later could be what you need.
But if you desire to move forward with renewed energy, then revisiting your sources of motivation might be a great place to start. One way to do that is by reflecting on a time in the past when you felt genuinely motivated. Ask yourself:
What kind of environment was I in back then?
Who was I in that moment?
Which of my strengths and talents was I using?
Which of my values was I living?
Who was supporting me?
What’s different now—what new challenges am I facing?
Once you identify those core motivators, you can start taking intentional steps to invite them back into your life. 🎯
And if lack of motivation has become a chronic issue that’s hard to navigate alone, working with a professional coach could help you regain clarity, energy, and momentum.
