Better Relationships Start With You—And Coaching Can Help

Forming and maintaining healthy, supportive relationships is a key part of the coaching journey. But how exactly can coaching help you build better relationships?

As human beings, we exist and evolve through our relationships. We connect to life through them, and we draw strength from them in many moments. As the world-renowned coach Tony Robbins says, “The quality of your life is the quality of your relationships.” That’s why creating meaningful and healthy relationships is not just a nice-to-have—it’s one of our most fundamental needs.

But what does a “good relationship” actually mean? In general terms, we can define it as a relationship based on trust and mutual respect, enriched with empathy and open communication. Of course, this definition can take many personal forms. Even though there are research-based markers of quality relationships, it’s important to recognize that each of us may define a “good relationship” differently.

So, how does coaching support this? 🧭

The Adlerian coaching approach—of which I’m a proud graduate—believes that every person is a meaning-seeking and meaning-making being. That’s why, in coaching, we first explore what a concept truly means to you. What does a good relationship look like in your eyes? How do you define quality? What would a healthy relationship feel like?

These might seem like simple questions, but gaining clarity here is often the most crucial first step.

Once you understand the nature of the relationship you want to build—your needs, your values, and your true desires—you’re ready to move into action. With your coach’s support, insight turns into action, and you start to create and nurture healthy relationships in your life. 🌱

What’s more, the support you receive from your coach is tailored uniquely to you, just like a custom-made suit. A skilled coach not only draws on research-backed tools and techniques but also serves as a role model through the coaching relationship itself. One of the most powerful aspects of coaching is that it provides a safe, respectful, and empowering relationship - one that can inspire and shape all other relationships in your life.

So let me ask you: How do you define a good relationship? Feel free to share your thoughts in the comments 🤗
